March Home Education Term

The Stranger Side of Nature – Home Education Term

The Stranger Side of Nature is a 5-week home education term at The Jungle Hut, designed for children aged 6+ with a curiosity for wildlife and the natural world.

Each week, children explore a different “series” of nature — from rainforest oddities and desert survivors to ocean curiosities and night-time hunters. Sessions combine hands-on learning, live animal handling, discussion, and creative art & craft activities.

Throughout the term, children build a fully interactive lap book, recording their discoveries through fact-folds, diagrams, and artwork. In Week 5, families are invited to a special presentation session, where children you their finished lap book, enjoy animal handling experiences, and take home their completed lap book as a keepsake and proof of attendance.

This term supports confidence, creativity, and a deeper understanding of the strange — and important — creatures that share our planet.

Educational Focus

Throughout the term, students develop skills in:

  • Exploring the weird and wonderful diversity of wildlife across different habitats

  • Understanding animal adaptations, survival strategies, and behaviour

  • Learning how creatures use venom, camouflage, colour, senses, and movement to survive

  • Developing observation, questioning, and discussion skills through hands-on investigation

  • Building biological knowledge in an age-appropriate, engaging way

  • Encouraging creative expression through art, craft, and lap book design

  • Supporting confidence and communication through sharing discoveries and presentation

  • Introducing conservation awareness and why even the strangest species matter

  • Providing a tangible record of learning through a completed lap book (proof of attendance)

Give your child a unique opportunity to learn, create and explore with The Jungle Hut’s immersive, conservation-focused education programme.

Spaces are limited — book your Ranger’s place today!

  • The term offers a structured and comprehensive curriculum that complements home education efforts, providing children with resources and activities to enrich their learning journey.

Session Information

Our home education sessions are education-focused and carefully structured, with learning at the heart of every workshop. Each session includes planned educational activities, discussion, and creative tasks designed to support curiosity, understanding, and confidence.

Alongside this, we believe hands-on experiences are essential. Every session includes the opportunity for children to meet and handle some of our animal ambassadors, such as snakes, lizards, amphibians, and invertebrates, always under the close supervision of our experienced Jungle Hut team.

Please note that we do not provide food or drinks during regular sessions. We recommend that children bring their own drinking bottle.
During Week 5 (Presentation Day), light snacks will be provided as part of the celebration.

Any questions please message us.

The Earlswood Lakes: Enjoy this 6.8-km circular trail just over from The Jungle Hut. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 1 h 46 min to complete. This is a very popular area for birding, fishing, and hiking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring.
